Good news for those who have not yet made it — and, for us, a chance to open the hang to one more artist.
Free figures
If this hang holds together, it is because it does not gather works at random. The gallery stands for painting that keeps the figure and refuses to pin it down. Its artists are neither quite figurative nor quite abstract: they work precisely in between, where form distorts, breaks apart and reinvents itself without ever letting go of the body or the face.
Each says it in his own way. Éric Citerne "transcends conventional stylistic boundaries". Julieth Mars Toussaint titles none of his canvases, so that the painting may speak for itself. PEBE Paul Bader abandoned perspective to invent an alphabet of figures of his own. Alex Mitrecey treats the canvas as a playground.
None of them obeys a school. And it is to that family that today's guest artist belongs.
A young painter as guest
Deadend Rasputin joins us for these final weeks. A self-taught painter who came to the medium through drawing five years ago, he works a substance drawn from brutalism and post-war painting — Bacon comes to mind, and Guston, and Chagall's narrative freedom. He paints a contemporary youth grappling with its own vertigo, and treats mental health as a head-on subject, never an illustrative one. His marginal figures are not victims: they are anti-heroes, magnified, set within dreamlike and acidic frescoes.
Among the works on view is a dissociated diptych, Vague à l'Âme and Velvet Town (oil on canvas, 150 × 120 cm each, 2025): two paintings conceived together, then separated, still answering one another across the room.
