Frédéric Choisel

(1959), France

Born in 1959, Frédéric Choisel lives and works in Paris. A photographer since childhood, he studied film, photography and visual arts at the École d'études cinématographiques de Paris and at Université Paris VII (1980–1982). This filmmaker's eye still shapes his method: he captures fleeting images, which become the starting point of his canvases.

His painting draws on the Dutch and Spanish Baroque masters, on Courbet and Corot, as well as on Cézanne, Willem de Kooning and Nicolas de Staël. He moves freely between figuration and abstraction. Working between France and California, he has exhibited since the early 2000s in France, Belgium and the United States. He is now exhibited at Galerie ELHABIBI.
